Data Justice

Data Justice Toolkit.

Helping people understand their data, their rights, and their choices.

We are building a new Data Justice Toolkit to help people with disabilities, families, and support staff better understand how personal information is collected and used — and how to stay safe, informed, and in control.

Coming soon. Expected launch is October 2026.

What Is the Data Justice Toolkit?

The Data Justice Toolkit is a set of easy-to-use resources that explain:

  • What data is and why it is collected
  • How data can help — and how it can cause harm
  • Your rights when sharing personal information
  • How to make informed choices when filling out forms

All materials are written in plain language and designed to be easy to read, watch, and use.

What will be included?

Each topic in the toolkit will include:

Simple, one-page handouts
Clear, easy-to-read guides you can print or view online.

Short videos (2–4 minutes)
Friendly videos that explain key ideas in a simple way.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Answers to common questions and concerns.

Plain-language glossary
Definitions of words you might see on forms or hear from providers.

Guides for support people (proxies)
Tips for helping someone fill out forms in a respectful, person-centered way.

Who is this for?

This toolkit is for:

  • Disabled people
  • Family members, caregivers, and support people
  • Community organizations and service providers

Whether you are filling out a form yourself or helping someone else, this toolkit is here to support you.

Why this matters

Sometimes people are asked to share personal information without clear explanations. This can feel confusing or unsafe.

This toolkit is designed to:

  • Build understanding and confidence
  • Support choice and control
  • Help people feel safe sharing information — or choosing not to

What you will be able to do

With this toolkit, you will be able to:

  • Understand why questions are being asked
  • Decide what you want to share
  • Ask the right questions
  • Correct or update your information
  • Feel more confident and informed

Built with community

This toolkit is being developed with input from:

  • People with disabilities
  • Advocates and community partners
  • Health and social service organizations

We are working to make sure these resources are useful, respectful, and easy to understand.
